The Making of Gene
"Gene was inspired by my love for classic movies and their glamorous stars." Well spoken by Mel Odom, the creator of Gene.

Mel Odom's biography reads like Gene's: Small Town Kid's dreams lead to the Big Time. Born and raised in rural North Carolina, he had a dream (like Gene) to be the best. Studying Fashion illustration in Virginia brought Mel opportunities to pursue further education in England before moving to Manhattan - where he became one of the premier illustrators of the 70's. |
History
The Gene Marshall collection began in 1995 with Gene, The Ashton - Drake Galleries 15-1/2" fashion doll phenomenon. Then Gene was joined by her rival, Madra Lord (15-3/4") in 2000 and handsome Trent Osborn (16") in 2001. Created by renowned artist/ illustrator Mel Odom, The Gene Marshall Collection represents a world of glamour and allure. Inspired by the classic movie stars of the '30's,'40s, and '50s, each character wears vivid recreations of the clothes and accessories of this bygone era. Intricate details, such as lavishing hand beading, fully lined dresses, and even the racy seam on the back of the sheer stockings, all add to the collection's nostalgic appeal.
