School Philosophy:
The staff at Corvallis High School provides our students with opportunities
and support to acquire academic and life skills for success in our highly
competitive global economy. In this emerging information age, Corvallis High
offers a balanced and challenging educational program insuring that our graduates
possess the knowledge and skills to live productive and satisfying lives.
Our goal is that they will contribute as individuals, family members, workers
and participants in a democratic society.
Goals:
The highest priority at CHS is student learning, which is facilitated by
experienced and well-qualified teachers. Staff is deeply invested in improving
student learning, continuously analyzing and revising instructional, curriculum
and assessment strategies. Our school goals require increased student performance
in writing, reading, math and the development of technology curriculum so
that all students are proficient users. CHS also continues to innovate with
a Projects in Natural Resources class, a proposed catering class/business,
and increased alternatives for students.
Mission Statement:
At Corvallis High School, we strive to create an environment that nurtures
self-esteem, responsibility, sensitivity and life-long learning.
Parent/Community Involvement:
Parents and other volunteers play an important role in contributing to student
success at Corvallis High. Beyond CHS, the school's college and career center
is staffed largely by volunteers. Many teachers include volunteers in their
classrooms; parents and community resources often participate in classrooms
and programs to enrich the learning experience. The Spartan athletics program,
with a long-standing tradition of excellence, is strongly supported by parent
volunteers.
Academic Themes:
Integration of the curriculum is a common theme at Corvallis High
School, as shown by classes such as Advanced Algebra/Honors Physics, American
Humanities and Global Humanities. Corvallis High also offers Advanced Placement
courses in 11 areas, as well as college courses through agreements with
Linn-Benton Community College and Oregon State University. The number and
type of work-based learning opportunities for our students is increasing:
these opportunities help students see the connections between school and
the world of work. In addition, CHS prides itself on developing curricular
offerings that reflect the needs of our children.
Corvallis High School is special because...
...we have many award-winning teachers and students and a culturally diverse
student body. Numerous CHS graduates continue to teach, work and learn at
their alma mater, attesting to its positive and energizing environment. CHS
is a place where all are welcome; students find the great balance of challenge
and support.
