Wilson Elementary School

Wellness & Health Programs

The health of young people is directly tied to academic achievement and their potential for school success and overall quality of life. The school alone cannot solve or prevent health-related problems. However, the school's ability to have a positive impact on students' health behavior and academic gains is enhanced with the help of parents and community. The School Wellness Council can help to ensure that the school is consistently working toward the goal of providing a healthy school environment.

The School Wellness Council is a team of teachers, school administrators, parents and community members, working in partnership to assure the well-being of students and staff by creating, modeling and promoting healthy habits and behaviors. The School Wellness Council can assist the school in meeting the district wellness policy (established in 2006) by making recommendations on school policy, programs and practices so that they reflect the school's wellness needs and concerns. The School Wellness Council serves as a resource for implementing district policy at each school.
